EOF and the Importance of Education
Education is the key to a thriving Nigeria
We, at Emmanuel Osemota Foundation (EOF), believe that nurturing a strong educational system in Nigeria is pivotal to increasing local employment and income opportunities.
It is the bedrock of social and economic development and can be the key to unlocking the golden door of freedom for all in Africa.
Access to quality education yields tremendous benefits and brings sustainable transformation for the individual, family, community, and nation.
As such, in Africa, and Nigeria in particular, any effort to establish lasting change must prioritize education.

According to UNESCO sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of educational exclusion in the world.
One in five children between the ages 6-11 do not attend school while one in three young people between ages 12-14 have dropped out of school.
These communities in Nigeria face enormous challenges including a severe lack of funding for education which leads to the detrimental exclusion of its youth.
Girls are particularly vulnerable to academic exclusion due to issues of child marriage and early motherhood which can permanently prohibit girls from completing their education according to the United Nations Population Fund.
Since the school dropout rate is a key educational metric, our approach targets the root causes of school dropout so that children have the opportunity and support to complete their education.
In order to fully understand community priorities, we conducted field observations and surveys to pinpoint which areas of support would be most effective.
As a result of our research, we are strategically and enthusiastically providing:
- Access to essential learning materials – books, school supplies, and teaching supplies
- Scholarships – to cover prohibitive costs of school uniforms, shoes, and other school expenses

Our initiatives aim to aid the local community in creating effective long-term investments that will provide high quality education opportunities for all. Our support empowers local community members to rise above the poverty cycle to become more effective agents of change.
By actively supporting the local community and dismantling the barriers they face to fulfilling their education, we will decrease the number of young people who fall through the cracks of a fractured system.
They will be less likely to choose destructive paths, induce harm on their community, and further perpetuate the cycle of poverty. Ultimately, our efforts will empower people to make significant contributions in advancing and uplifting their own communities.
