PRE-EVENT

The Emmanuel Osemota Foundation partnered with the Edo State Ministry of Education to advance its Girl-Child Initiative program. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting period health and education, designating Edo National College, Iguobazuwa, in Ovia South-West Local Government Area as the host school. Upon arrival, the Foundation’s team was warmly received by the principal and staff, who expressed deep enthusiasm for the initiative.

The planning discussions focused on event logistics — setting the date, selecting participating female students, and identifying specific classes to target. The logistics team also reviewed and organized all materials provided by the Foundation, ensuring that educational resources, sanitary pads, and awareness materials were well-prepared for the outreach.

THE EVENT

On the event day, the team arrived early to set up and welcome students. Soon, over 200 excited senior secondary girlsfilled the hall, eager to learn and engage.

The session began with a highly interactive lecture on Menstrual Hygiene Management, delivered by Dr. Karo Onoriose-Anene. Her engaging presentation encouraged open discussion as students asked thoughtful questions, all of which she answered insightfully. Dr. Onoriose-Anene also demonstrated the proper use of sanitary pads, helping to break the stigma around menstruation while promoting confidence and self-care.

She later presented an impactful talk on Substance Abuse and Human Trafficking, using visuals and real-life stories to inspire awareness and preventive action. The students were captivated, gaining both knowledge and motivation to make positive life choices.

To add excitement, the Emmanuel Osemota Foundation organized a quiz competition, rewarding top participants with special gift prizes.

As a fitting conclusion, each student received a menstrual care package containing sanitary pads and branded notebooks, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to ending period poverty and empowering girls through education.
