The College of Medicine at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, had an unforgettable experience when the Emmanuel Osemota Foundation joyfully hosted the Dr. Samuel Uwa & Prof. Lucy Amadin Osemota Memorial Awards: Stethoscope Presentation on May 8, 2024, from 12 pm – 2 pm.

THE EVENT

The Dr. Samuel Uwa & Prof. Lucy Amadin Osemota Memorial Awards presented stethoscopes to the best TWENTY students in the just released Part 1 MBBS examination for the 2022/2023 session.

The Former Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. G.B.S. Iyalomhe, lead staff of the college and the twenty beneficiaries to the award ceremony, held on Wednesday 8th May, 2024 at the Vice Chancellor’s conference room. He informed the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. S. Adagbonyin, that he was also standing in for the Foundation along side Mrs. Alli, who is the younger sister of Dr. Samuel Uwa Osemota.

He eloquently portrayed the revered figures of Dr. Samuel Uwa Osemota and Prof. (Mrs.) Lucy Amadin Osemota, as distinguished educators and pioneers in their own right, after whom the memorial award is named.

Both esteemed graduates of the University of Tennessee, Dr. Samuel Uwa Osemota’s tireless endeavors in establishing educational institutions across Nigeria, notably the renowned Federal Polytechnic in Auchi, Edo State, underscore his unwavering dedication to education. Meanwhile, Prof. (Mrs.) Lucy Amadin Osemota, the first female professor in her community, left an indelible mark on academia and literacy, serving as a revered librarian and educator in both the United States and Nigeria.

Subsequently, he handed over the twenty stethoscopes provided by the foundation to the Acting Vice Chancellor, who then presented them to the beneficiaries.

In response, the Acting Vice Chancellor, represented by Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof. Theophilus Agweda, conveyed gratitude on behalf of the University Management, staff, and students. He lauded the Emmanuel Osemota Foundation for fostering academic excellence through the provision of twenty stethoscopes. Expressing the Acting Vice Chancellor’s delight, he emphasized the importance of sustaining such contributions.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the twenty stethoscopes to the top twenty students who recently completed their Part 1 MBBS Examination for the 2022/2023 academic session. Attended by the Ag Registrar, Deans, HODs, and College of Medicine staff, the ceremony saw the stethoscopes handed over to the deserving students in order of merit.
